Hollard Health is looking for a passionate and energetic Underwriting Controller (Underwriter) with relevant experience in Group Insurance Underwriting.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Underwriting Controller with a Passion for Africa who would like to grow and develop their technical underwriting experience and knowledge within a unique, dynamic, and fast changing business within Hollard Health.
This exciting career opportunity will ideally suit a candidate that is highly motivated, with an unquestionable work ethic and attention to detail. A candidate should also be able to work well under pressure and contribute their part within a highly functional technical team.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze information provided by brokers, clients, and internal sources to generate new business and renewal quotations whilst ensuring adherence to established underwriting guidelines and rating models.
Assess the risk associated with each quote by reviewing medical histories, policy parameters and other relevant factors ensuring that the underwriting decisions align with the company’s risk.
Collaborate with brokers, sales teams, and other internal stakeholders to understand client requirements, clarify information, and provide guidance on underwriting aspects.
Control the quotation workflow and ensure quotes are produced accurately and timely.
Handling quotation related queries and cases.
Be the underwriting champion and cornerstone of quotation delivery.
Be point of contact for internal and external stakeholders across spectrum of underwriting related queries.
Maintaining Underwriting reports of quotes, underwriting decisions, and related communications
Engagement with client management and Sales team to ensure smooth client onboarding.
Assess client applications against Hollard Health’ underwriting risk standards.
Continuously identify opportunities to streamline and improve the efficiency of quotes production.
Required Knowledge And Experience
At least 8-10 years’ experience as an Underwriter.
Strong understanding of medical underwriting principles, rating methodologies, and risk assessment techniques.
Fully proficient in Microsoft Suite of Products (including but not limited to Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint).
Fully proficient in English (knowledge and proficiency in French and Portuguese will be beneficial).
Good understanding of the basic of group underwriting (Ideally Health, but Life Insurance also beneficial).
Ability to multitask, prioritise, and manage time efficiently.

Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study such as Insurance, Risk Management, or Finance.
Insurance qualification / FAIS Credits / Regulatory Exam would be an advantage.
