Job Description

The Social Media Manager is responsible for the development of Old Mutual’s online expression, organic presence, and overall growth and maintenance of a favourable brand on social media channels.

This role will drive social media engagement and grow our online community by managing the consumer’s view and experience of the Old Mutual brand. The role will contribute to thought leadership, stimulate innovative thinking and distil clear social media (web & mobile) guidelines, marketing strategies and plans.

The incumbent will work closely with Brand teams, Human Capital, Digital and Performance Marketing Managers, Campaign Managers, Community Managers, Segments and Advisors to deliver on objectives.

You will be expected to provide best practice, and thought leadership ensuring the delivery of best-in-class Social Media strategies, Content Production, Asset Management, Organic Social Campaign management, Live Event coverage, and Reporting.

This position is best suited to someone who is a knowledgeable Social Media practitioner, who also has experience working with creative teams and managing cross-functional projects with tight delivery deadlines. You must be able to plan, prioritise and co-ordinate activities across the enterprise, as well as communicate effectively.

  • Own the creation, socialisation and management of the Group’s Social Media style guide, policy and best practice guidelines to protect the brand’s security, reputation, privacy and legal interests on social media channels. The style guide will inform the way Old Mutual approaches different social media content to influence how users perceive our brand.
  • Contribute to the development of an integrated social media marketing strategy for Old Mutual that answers to the overall business strategy, brand strategy and segment strategy requirements.
  • Design and deliver a co-ordinated process where all aspects of the agreed social media marketing strategy are implemented to ensure an integrated brand experience.
  • Collaborate with marketing colleagues to amplify traditional marketing campaigns through social media; monitor engagement and interactions and stimulate conversations that interest the audience and help deliver the marketing strategy ensuring that social media and traditional marketing strategy and activity is integrated and leverages one another.
  • Work collaboratively across Old Mutual to recommend social media marketing strategies in order to drive traffic, increase customer acquisition, engagement, retention and revenue.
  • Collaborate with marketing teams enterprise-wide to plan effective and engaging always-on (AO) content for social media channels. Manage the scheduling of content / event production in order to avoid conflicts and to ensure optimal use of team resources.
  • Identify best-in-class briefing, production and scheduling processes, and entrench these within cross-functional teams.
  • Work with relevant Lines of Business/segments to build social media communities off the platforms they provide and engage in interactive conversations with customers & stakeholders.
  • Facilitate delivery by helping subject matter experts within the team to properly interpret briefs and distil objectives.
  • Conduct competitor research and monitoring, including researching the industry, platform and technology developments and identifying opportunities to innovate.
  • Monitor, identify and report on topical issues and themes currently being discussed on social media relevant to the market and Old Mutual brand.
  • Work with the Analytics team as and when required to define and refine social media KPIs and value, including impact on brand affinity and sales conversion from social media interactions.
  • Implement and adhere to governances and policies across Old Mutual to ensure that all social media marketing activities are compliant to agreed protocols, standards and rules.

Minimum Requirements

  • Business or Marketing Degree
  • Social Media Marketing Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ demonstrated, relevant experience working in a social media marketing environment and complex organization (preferably in the financial services industry however not mandatory).
  • Experience working in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team within an interactive process.
  • Ability to build relationships and partner cross-functionally, cross-enterprise and manage stakeholders at different levels.
  • Self-starter with outstanding organizational skills and ability to track multiple dependencies (3-5) going on all at once.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, comfort in a dynamic and fast-moving work environment.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate complex messages in simple language for better buy-in and tell a compelling story.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
