Job Description

A leading independent power producer operating and developing power projects in Africa. In South Africa, owns and operates renewable energy (RE) power plants throughout the country.

The HR team has a matrix structure. Within the team, the Specialist, HR is the rewards specialist, overseeing payroll and benefits administration, Employment Equity and Black Economic Empowerment obligations of the business.

The role requires occasional travel (air and road) to visit plant sites in South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

Compensation & Benefits

  • Execute monthly payroll and benefits management
  • Oversee benefit-related tasks associated with new joiners and leavers
  • Coordinate benefits review and renewal across the organisation

Skills Development & Training (including BBEE alignment)

  • Prepare and submit Workplace Skills Plans (WSPs) and Annual Training Reports (ATRs)
  • Ensure completion of mandatory training and training renewals where required
  • Ensure accurate record keeping of training activities for reporting purposes.
  • HR project lead on BBEE annual audit
  • EE data management and annual reporting

HR Business Partner

  • Manage the HR-related administration of new joiners, leavers, transfers and promotions
  • Project manage and guide recruitment, including refining job descriptions, engaging with recruiters, conducting interviews with managers and consulting on hiring decisions
  • Assist managers to deal with performance and misconduct issues
  • Build and maintain relationships with staff and managers
  • Advise and guide staff on applying HR-related policies and procedures
  • Partner with managers to develop initiatives to enhance team performance
  • Coach/counsel employees through personal or professional issues and/or refer (e.g. to EAP) as appropriate
  • Ensure full onboarding process is conducted
  • Project manage performance management, including ratings calibration
  • Partner with managers to leverage feedback from employee surveys
  • Support Annual Salary Review process

Other

  • Develop/refine policies and procedures
  • Contribute to improving HR systems, processes and practices
  • Assist with departmental procurement
  • Coach the HR Intern
  • Any other duties, as assigned by the line manager, in line with the role.

Experience, Knowledge And Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience in human resources, ideally at a corporate/head office level
  • Minimum 1 year experience in payroll administration
  • An undergraduate degree in Human Resources or similar is required
  • Additional training/certification in payroll management would be an advantage
  • Training in and experience as a Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) would be an advantage
  • Labour Relations experience would be an advantage
  • High proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills are required
  • Experience in an online HR Management System or an ERP would be an advantage
  • Valid driver’s license is required
