Primary Purpose Of The Job

To assist the Artisan or Maintenance Technician onsite.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Inspection of Boiler
• Housekeeping of Workshop and Storeroom
• Food Safety

KEY PERFORMANCE OF A MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT

The following list of Key Performance Areas and job activities are not exhaustive. Company may instruct the employee at any time to carry out additional duties or responsibilities, which fall reasonably within the ambit of the job, or in accordance with operational requirements.

• Report to maintenance technician on any irregularities or faults on factory machinery.
• Perform start-up check of boiler and all its levels (water, fuel etc).
• Check for fuel and water leaks and report to Maintenance Technician.
• Conduct maintenance of all machinery.
• Conducting checks to ensure all machinery functioning correctly.
• Conduct fault checks.
• Ensure safe running of equipment.
• Check and report broken isolators, glands on the electrical boxes.
• Check and report any broken sieves.
• Report in daily faults or maintenance issues to maintenance technician.
• Assist in commission new machinery.
• Conduct Ad hoc building maintenance work from time to time.
• Assist maintenance technician with maintenance and breakdown of machinery.
• Ensure workshop and storeroom are clean and neat.
• Clean tools and floors.
• Ensure chemicals, lubricants and power tools are stored appropriately.
• Reporting faults and repairs on power tools to Maintenance engineer.
• Check stock levels of sundries and order when required.
• Receive, document and store stock.
• The factory must be kept in a clean, hygienic condition.
• Factory hygiene rules to be observed (no jewellery to be worn, hand-washing procedures to be observed, PPE’s to be worn etc).
• Personal hygiene standards must be maintained (showering, bathing etc)
• Company’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) to be observed.
• Product must be protected from contamination (glass, metal, wood, chemicals, oils, grease, insects etc).
• Ensure no wastages due to poor quality product.
• Attend annual induction training on Good Manufacturing Practices and any other training provided by the company.
• Undergo annual medicals.
• Report all potential food safety threats to management.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

• At least a Matric/Grade 12.
• N1 or N2 Mechanical Certificate
• Minimum of 3
• 5 years’ work experience in a Machinery maintenance role.

Other Skills Required

• Ability to work power tools and hand tools
• Physically fit

Language Skills

Level 3

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organisation.

Numerical Skills

Level 2

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Level 3

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardised situations

Licences

• Forklift license (advantageous)

Computer Skill

• Basic computer literacy skills (advantageous)

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is:

• Often required to stand and walk.
• Often required to climb, stoop, kneel or crawl.
• Sometime required to lift weight of up to 50kg.
• Often working in highly dusty areas and in confined spaces.
• Required to work shift hours.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include colour (for colour coding bags etc.) vision.
