Job Description

As the Head of IT for our Africa segment, your primary responsibility will be to provide strategic vision and effective leadership in the IT department. You will play a crucial role in overseeing, planning, organizing, and controlling all IT functions within the region. Your goal is to develop and implement a robust IT strategy, Digital Strategy, and Data Strategy operating model that aligns with our business growth and development objectives.

Your main focus will be on delivering a comprehensive range of IT services. This will involve sponsoring process and system improvements, as well as driving initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of IT service provision through digital enablement. By leveraging your expertise and staying up-to-date with technological advancements, you will position our organization for success in the digital era.

Your leadership skills will be essential in managing and motivating a team of IT professionals. Collaborating with key stakeholders across various departments will be critical in establishing strong partnerships and aligning IT initiatives with our business objectives. Additionally, you will drive a culture of continuous improvement and excellence within the IT department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and execute the IT strategy for the Africa segment, ensuring compliance with architectural frameworks, design principles, and technical standards.
  • Manage and prioritise system development, ensuring quality and evaluating the ROI of IT solutions.
  • Foster a risk-aware culture by prioritising data privacy rules and data security in the IT strategy.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to determine fit-for-purpose IT requirements that optimize business performance.
  • Establish and enforce standards and procedures for solutions definition, development, testing, change management, and operational controls.
  • Drive initiatives to improve system performance, staff productivity, and service delivery.
  • Audit systems to ensure adherence to data integrity and security standards.
  • Promote awareness of emerging technologies among staff and business management.
  • Identify and assess new hardware, software, and communication technologies for their relevance and potential value to the organization.
  • Cultivate effective business relationships with key stakeholders, including third-party vendors.
  • Implement IT governance processes and forums.
  • Compile and manage IT risks in collaboration with country IT Heads and Group.

Client and Stakeholder Management:

  • Build and maintain client and stakeholder relationships to promote cross-delivery practice solutions.
  • Sustain a competitive edge through external networking, benchmarking, and representation on related forums.
  • Define fair and innovative client service practices to foster rewarding relationships and enable exceptional client service.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to identify changing client needs and align service offerings accordingly.
  • Manage a culture of client service excellence to develop enduring relationships and deliver exceptional service.
  • Introduce new channels for client interaction to enhance client services and meet service expectations.

People Management:

  • Contribute to Professional Bodies and Stakeholder Groups for professional development and industry collaboration.

  • Develop and manage a People Capability plan for long-term workforce alignment.

Requirements

Formal qualifications:

  • Essential: Relevant Computer Science qualification
  • Desirable: Relevant post-graduate qualification

On-the-job training/qualifications:

  • Essential: Experience in working in the Rest of Africa
  • Essential: Experience in rolling out digital initiatives aimed at transforming the business to be future-fit and maturing complaints

Experience:

  • Essential: 10 years experience managing IT in a large corporate environment
  • Essential: 6-8 years experience in a strategic IT planning, execution, and people management role
  • Essential: 7-10 years experience in Enterprise Architecture
  • Essential: Financial services industry experience
