Our client is a manufacturer and supplier of the widest ranges of high-quality galvanized rainwater goods, roof sheeting and ceiling products for the plumbing and building industry. They are looking for a qualified Diesel Mechanic to join their team.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of diesel-powered vehicles. Their duties include running diagnostic tests on vehicles, test driving vehicles to gauge performance and maintaining detailed records of the vehicles they have serviced.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Running diagnostic tests on vehicles
• Analyzing diagnostic test results
• Replacing vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions, and braking systems
• Checking vehicle lighting systems
• Test driving vehicles to gauge performance
• Performing preventative maintenance on service trucks
• Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles
• Adhering to an inspection procedure checklist
• Maintaining a parts inventory
• Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop
• Use hand tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, or precision instruments, as well as power tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, or jacks and hoists
• Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery
• Recondition and replace parts, pistons, bearings, gears, and valves
• Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery, such as pumps and compressors
• Install or repair accessories
• Disassemble and overhaul internal combustion engines, pumps, generators, transmissions, clutches, and differential units
• Repair or adjust seats, doors, or windows
• Conduct regular inspections in order to ready to go trucks on alternating weekends as scheduled
• Ensure that you are available and, in a condition, to perform your duties while on standby
• Report any defects and/or irregularities to the fleet manager
• Ensure that you adhering to safe working procedures at all times

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Matric
• Diesel Mechanic qualification + trade tested

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Minimum 3 years experience (post trade test) required
• This position involves shift work and some weekends
• Valid Code 14 license, or willingness to obtain Code 14 license
